AP Photographer Charlie Riedel just filed the following images of seabirds caught in the oil slick on a beach on Louisiana's East Grand Terre Island. As BP engineers continue their efforts to cap the underwater flow of oil, landfall is becoming more frequent, and the effects more evident.

How can we as a nation stand by and watch such a thing happen! These poor creatures-if they think they can't save them-i know this sounds awful-but do the humane thing and figure out a way to end their pain instead of dying a slow and terrible death. BP should be accountable for not only monetary responsibilities but also brought up on criminal charges! I don't even know if jail time would be a sufficient enough of a punishment but it would be a start! This is a very sad thing happening to our nation! We can only hope God can get these people through this!
If a person was to sit back and watch something of this horrid nature happen to a family pet, or even more so...and exotic animal, no doubt that person would not only be guilty of bloodshed, but be charge with the most that a court could find to punish him with! To inflict pain on an animal in my opinion is as bad as sitting back and watching while it happens!!
