Grieving pit bull stays with dead mate for 14 HOURS.

The sad sight of a male pit bull mourning by the side of his dead partner has moved many to tears after it was posted to Facebook.
On Friday, the female pit bull was killed by a car on South 16th Street in Phoenix, but her partner refused to abandon her.
The male dog stayed by her side for more than 14 hours before Animal Control removed her body and now, they say, he is still so depressed he may not be able to find a home to adopt him.

Sad Sight: A photo of a pit bull mourning his partner has moved many to tears after it was posted to Facebook

True Love: The female pit bull was killed by a car on South 16th Street in Phoenix, but her partner refused to go
The image of the two animals was shared more than 2,000 times over the weekend, as users urged one another to find out what happened to the animals and what could be done to get them the help they needed.
'These kinds of cases touch people's hearts,' said Rodrigo Silva of Animal Care and Control to the MailOnline.
The pair stayed at the roadside, cars whizzing by, for so long that a local business put out food and water for the male pit bull.
Nuzzling his lost love, the male dog would not leave her side.

Karyn Aspan, a Facebook user from Chicago that saw the photograph, was moved from sadness to anger.
'I am so pissed about this,' said Karyn Aspan said on her Facebook wall. 'Animal control responded 14.5 hours later.'
After seeing the photo, she sprung to action, calling the mayor of Phoenix's office and rallying support for the animal.

Captain Paul Watson Released On Bail

Thanks to help from thousands of letters, emails, faxes, and phone calls last week, the Honorable German Ministers of Justice and Foreign Affairs released Sea Shepherd Captain Paul Watson on bail today. While Sea Shepherd’s legal team says this is an unusual, but promising move on the part of the Higher Regional Court, Paul Watson still awaits extradition to Costa Rica in relation to a shark finning incident in 2002
Whether or not the Sea Shepherd’s captain will be extradited to Costa Rica is now deferred to the Honorable German Minister of Justice, who can apparently step in at any time to prevent the extradition. Sea Shepherd is asking that supporters in Germany and overseas continue writing Federal Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Guido Westerwelle.
In addition, the animal rights organization has announced a Global Day of Action on Wednesday May 23 to coincide with a diplomatic visit to Germany by Costa Rican president Laura Chinchilla Miranda. While Sea Shepherds around the world will make their voices heard at German embassies and consulates between 1100 and 1300 hours (local time), they ask that supporters do the same by visiting the closest German embassy or consulate and demand Captain Paul Watson’s freedom. Sea Shepherd’s main concern is that if Watson is extradited to Costa Rica, the decision would be the same as carrying out his death sentence.
If you would like to aid in the efforts to free Captain Paul Watson, please email, call, fax or write the following Ministers:

Brazilian Senate has called for the release of Captain Watson

The full Senate  today -Brazil May 18, 2012 made an appeal for release of activist and defender of life in the oceans Captain Paul Watson commander Sea Shepherd  marine life advocacy organization

Transcription of video >>>
"Asked of environment sectors, more in defense of water and the seas and oceans ... I want to make a record that is actually a request for free an activist in defense of the planet who is imprisoned in Germany. Since the 14 one of the most active and important activists of the planet is in jail in Germany.
Canadian Captain Paul Watson, leader of the international NGO Conservation Society Sea Shepherd has focused on the protection of oceans and marine life around the world was arrested. He was named by Time magazine as one of the heroes of the ecology of the century, was also cofounder of the international NGO Greenpeace.
Responsable for the law, the preservation of several marine species many of them endangered. A libertarian on Earth, a libertarian natural life, an advocate of harmony between humans, animals and nature. This libertarian was arrested in Frankfurt in Germany.
The reason for his arrest is at least doubtful or curious ... the mandate for the arrest of Captain Watson was issued in Costa Rica in October 2011. This term refers to a process that had been filed and that curiously was reopened a few days after the Research Institute Cataceus initiated a civil suit against the Society for Conservation of Sea Shepherd in United States. Resuming, the term of imprisonment not longer has any legal validity because has prescribed.
According to the Costa Rican goberment, Watson played a vessel in the other direction on a vessel fishing in its waters, but the water which allegedly took place these waters belong to Guatemala and the action was authorized by the government of Guatemala, as it is to prevent a crime was committed in the estimated guatemalan environmental law.
The fact that Costa Rica asked the arrest of Captain Watson is at least strange, doubtful, suspicious, suspicious frame to imprison a person who plans the actions that cause the greatest economic losts of companies getting their profits practicing crime against marine wildlife around the world.
INTERPOL has issued a statement on its website saying that it hadn't issued a red alert for the arrest of Captain Watson because his office legal procedures are not satisfied with the request of Costa Rica and that it is not in conformity with the constitution and rules of INTERPOL. INTERPOL believes that is having prison abuse and illegal according to the report I received.
Politics plays, economic interests and pressure from countries that practice illegal fishing and the hunting of whales and dolphins. We made this complaint with the Human Rights Chairman. The fishing industry in Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea and China, countries with strong international influence and that are fishing in a form of economic gain will certainly want to keep this activist in prison.

We can not accuse anyone here ... no country but it seems clear that Costa Rica is serving as an instrument to defend the interests of more powerful countries and that in fact violate international law in defense of planet, the environment and marine life.
More than 158,000 emails were sent to the Justice  Ministry in Germany. The world is moving and I do it here in Brazil at this time for the release of Watson. Brazil can not be silent on this fact. We have one of the richest coastal marine diversity in this world, the Brazilian waters attract the interest of industrial fishing. Nothing against fishing in any way but everything against illegal fishing and destruction of marine biodiversity.
I repeat ... we can not remain silent because there are already true mafias operating in Brazilian waters mainly in the northand northeast of Brazil. Not by chance the seizure of shark fins that would be smuggled to Asia which unfortunately happened here in Brazil. There are several questions that we should do about this issue ... one of them is that we would like to see our humble and honest fishermen respected and not swallowed up by large international fishing corporations.
This man, Captain Paul Watson fights against this. The release of the activist is interest to the world, is interest of humanity, is interest to Brazil.
I remember that the Conservation Society Sea Shepherd has an arm on Brazilian soil responsible for the protection of the Brazilian coast and its marine diversity, acting against illegal fishing issues, the oil spill and damage to the environment.
Ending only by saying that ... if we allow the arrest and extradition of this man actually occur there, will be setting a precedent for that to happen also in our country.
We can't be silent ... so we ask to release Paul Watson that he continues to defend the planet."

Urgent Call to Sea Shepherd Supporters - Help Save Captain Watson from Extradition to Costa Rica!
In shocking news, German officials have decided to proceed with the extradition of Captain Watson to Costa Rica. Our last hope of saving Captain Watson from extradition is to convince German officials at the Ministry of Justice to step in and overturn their decision. Show your support for Captain Watson by contacting Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, the Federal Minister of Justice in Berlin, Germany. Let her know that the warrant for Captain Watson's arrest is politically motivated and thus should be ignored by the German government. With international support we can set Captain Watson free, and keep him from the possibility of facing an unfair trial in Costa Rica.

Dear Ms Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger,

I was very concerned to hear that Germany has detained Sea Shepherd's Captain Paul Watson for possible extradition to Costa Rica. I understand that the warrant for Captain Watson's arrest is politically motivated and possibly due to an incident in which Sea Shepherd uncovered an illegal shark finning operation.

I support Sea Shepherd's efforts to monitor and publicise illegal fishing and whaling around the world and recognize that some illegal fishing operations try to use international law to shut down the Sea Shepherd operations. I urge you to consider the valuable work Captain Watson and Sea Shepherd are undertaking globally to highlight the dangers to our oceans in considering this extradition request.

Sincerely,

Your Name.

Sea Shepherd leader Paul Watson arrested in Germany

UPDATE HERE

THE leader of controversial environment group Sea Shepherd has been arrested on what is believed to be an attempted murder charge.

Captain Paul Watson was arrested in Germany over the weekend and will be extradited to Costa Rica on an outstanding arrest warrant from an incident which occurred in 2002.
In a statement Sea Shepherd said the arrest was related to a "violation of ships traffic" incident and involved a Costa Rican vessel called the Varadero in Guatemalan waters illegally hunting for shark fins.
"While escorting the Varadero back to port, the tables were turned and a Guatemalan gunboat was dispatched to intercept the Sea Shepherd crew," the statement read.
"The crew of the Varadero accused the Sea Shepherds of trying to kill them, while the video evidence proves this to be a fallacy. To avoid the Guatemalan gunboat, Sea Shepherd then set sail for Costa Rica, where they uncovered even more illegal shark finning activities in the form of dried shark fins by the thousands on the roofs of industrial buildings."
The group says Mr Watson and his ship intercepted the Varadero on the orders of the Guatemalan Government but later encountered a Costa Rican gun boat, the crew of which has accused Mr Watson of attempted murder.
The statement said video evidence proved the claims were untrue.

Paul Watson was arrested this afternoon (local german time) at the Frankfurt/Main Airport. Like and share this page so the worlds eyes are on germany! He was arrested because of a 7 year old arrest warrant from Costa Rica (dangerous shipping traffic)

Update on the Arrest of Captain Watson: Day 2 in Custody

Captain Paul Watson defending the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, as the Japanese factory ship, Nisshin Maru, lurks nearby. Photo: Barbara VeigaCaptain Paul Watson defending the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, as the Japanese factory ship, Nisshin Maru, lurks nearby. Photo: Barbara VeigaCaptain Watson remains in the custody of German authorities as of Monday, May 14th.  A German judge in the lower courts of Frankfurt has refused to release Captain Watson, instead saying that the German court would like to confirm that Costa Rica wants Captain Watson extradited to their country.  The German legal council representing Captain Watson includes Oliver Wallasch and Alexander Gruner.  Sea Shepherd operatives continue to work around the clock in Europe and Latin America in order to determine the true reasons behind Costa Rica’s warrant.
The warrant for Captain Watson’s arrest was issued in Costa Rica in October of 2011, curiously close to the time that the Institute for Cetacean Research (ICR) filed their civil suit against Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in the United States.  The question remains, what prompted Costa Rica to issue an arrest warrant for Captain Watson in October of 2011?
INTERPOL has issued a statement on their website citing that they will not publish a Red Notice seeking the arrest of Captain Watson because their Office of Legal Affairs is not satisfied that the request from Costa Rica is in compliance with INTERPOL’s Constitutions and Rules. Hopefully the German courts will come to the same conclusion soon and set Captain Watson free.

Babyboy's Legacy Lives On

Our Story and why we turn purple every year on

June 24-30

Terri Davis is one of those people who has fought her way through depression, tears and heartache to change the bad things that happen into good.  The memory of Babyboy has touched thousands of lives and raised awareness against animal abuse, not only all over the country, but the world.  Babyboy's memory has spurred Terri to become an advocate for animal rights which has rescued countless dogs from abuse and homelessness.  She also provides comfort and counseling for those suffering from the loss of beloved animal companions.  (Terri and her fellow volunteers rescued Buford and Billy Bob from death row in Alabama, who were recently adopted into ABC families.)

In 2006 Terri brought the Basset Hound puppy, Babyboy, home for her two daughters.  Rebecca was 12 and Courtney was 13.  As any Basset savvy person knows Bassets and kids are made for each other.  Her daughters bonded with their new puppy.  Terri herself loved Babyboy as a son.  In Terri's own words: "He was with me through my darkest time in life and words can’t explain the bond we shared. That bond of love will never be broken."  Babyboy was coddled and loved as a beloved son.  He was never left outside and slept indoors with her children.

 Babyboys Memorial

In June of 2008, Babyboy got loose from the house through an open door.  We all know that sick, frightening, gut-wrenching feeling when we notice a beloved pet is missing.  Most of the time everything turns out ok and we renew our efforts to keep the dog protected in our home or pens.  In Terri's case the nightmare became reality.  Babyboy, loose for the first and only time, wandered into a neighbor's yard where he was shot in the back and killed.  An eyewitness account said he suffered for about five minutes before passing away.  The vet who examined him said that had he lived he never would have walked again as the bullet hit his lower back in his spine.  The angle of the shot showed that Babyboy had been walking away from the shooter.

Terri and her children were distraught and traumatized.  Becca who shared a special bond with Babyboy was inconsolable and Terri sat up with her many nights trying to comfort her.  Terri herself suffered illness from depression and post-traumatic-stress disorder.  They all missed Babyboy and grieved for his passing.  They wanted his life to have some meaning and to be remembered.

Babyboy's killer admitted to shooting the Basset Hound and Terri embarked on a two year long fight to gain justice for Babyboy in the courts.  Animal cruelty can be a felony crime in Alabama and is, at the very least, a Class B misdemeanor.  Terri's intent was to hold the shooter responsible for the killing of a beloved family member.  When no criminal charges were pressed, Terri embarked on a civil suit endeavoring to provide some comfort and closure for her family to this terrible event.  As things turned out the courts did not grant her family the justice they sought and the case was settled.  However, Babyboy's murder changed the lives of Terri and her family forever.

During this process Terri learned a great deal about animal cruelty.  Turning to Facebook to connect with others who had been victims of animal cruelty she met literally thousands of folk who shared her pain.  She began to appreciate the plight of unwanted animals and set out to make a difference in their lives.  The list of her achievements since 2008 is very long (I'm sure I will miss some so take a look for yourself.)  I think that Babyboy must be very pleased at the legacy he has left the world.

Over 1,700 people attended a memorial for Babyboy on June 28, 2011 and Terri set up Babyboy's Memorial on Facebook.   It includes pictures and videos of Babyboy in his loving home.  In response to the overwhelming interest in and support for Babyboy's story, Terri set up The Official Voice for the Voiceless which reports stories of animals who were the victims of abuse and cruelty.  This site boasts more than 7,936 members and truly is their voice that tells the stories that otherwise would never be heard.

In 2008 Terri set up The Voice for the Voiceless  Blog and  Rainbow Bridge &, Paws on My Heart, facebook groups for people whose animals lost their lives to violent crime.  The blogs received 100,000 views in the first year and her Rainbow bridge page has more than 7,760 members and one of the most loving and friendly pet loss groups on facebook. In 2010  She began making beautiful jewelry and keepsake memorials for families grieving the loss of beloved animals.  She holds auctions for her memorial jewelry (Jewelry 2 Benefit Paws) and rainbow bridge artwork and donates the proceeds to Basset Hound rescues across the country she has also donated many items to rescues across the U.S. and the rescues get 100% of what ever the item brings..  Many grieving families gain comfort through Terri's wonderful artwork. In 2012 she put her talent to the test and began custom painting basset hound charms to look exactly like your dog . You can view all her Jewelry designs here
JEWELRY FOR ANIMAL LOVERS AND RAINBOW BRIDGE CREATIONS Designs by Terri

She set up a Facebook Cause site to Turn FB Purple for 1 Week to Raise Awareness Against Animal Abuse.  Its mission is to raise awareness globally and to take a stand against animal cruelty by using a purple profile picture and tying purple ribbons around your mailbox or trees..  This Cause Page had an amazing 426,543 members to date from all over the world, and is growing daily.  The week she chose to change Facebook profiles purple is the week of Babyboy's shooting - June 24-30th.

Terri is also very involved in local rescue of homeless animals and her own house is always full.  She started a local group called  Basset Hound Rescuers AL and Surround States  They are a group of hound lovers who work tirelessly for homeless and abused Bassets and are saving as many lives as they possibly can without funding of any kind.  In appreciation to ABC for their work in the March Southern transport (which brought Buford, Billy Bob and six other houndies to NY to find their forever homes) Terri set up the page Cause to Raise Funds for ABC Basset Hound Rescue of NY which has raised $475 for ABC Basset Rescue of NY

Terri's philanthropy through her Cause page is so successful mainly due to the huge member base her 'Raise Awareness' page  now boasts.  In 2011  Terri was struck by the awful losses AL suffered in the terrible March storms and tornadoes.  She came across the now famous photo of Greg Cook finding his dog Coco alive in his home, which was leveled to the ground in a tornado. That photo, depicting the love of a man for his dog, prompted Terri to create a Cause page to raise funds for Mr. Cook which raised an amazing $2,400.  Here is a video of Terri Delivering Donation to Mr. Cook.

There are way too many rescue efforts Terri has been involved in to mention here but one more that really touched our hearts was for the House of Puddles, a nonprofit sanctuary for senior, homeless Basset Hounds.  Terri's Cause page for the Basset Hound Retirement Home raised almost $920 for their rescue.

To date Terri has raised over $ 10,000  for the Causes she has championed.  Quite an amazing achievement for one person!  You can view her Causes at Turn FB Purple to Raise Awareness Against Animal Abuse.

Terri's campaign against animal abuse has spread far and wide.  Maria Daines is a multi-award winning international vocalist and songwriter who was deeply touched by Babyboy's story.  Her music is called United for Animals.  Maria calls her music 'rock for the voiceless'.  Her band opened for US artist Pink, at Cardiff International Arena for the Party For Animals World Wide concert in August 2007. The concert raised over £90,000 for six animal welfare charities. Based in the UK, Maria and her guitarist/ producer Paul Killington, write songs in many genres, including rock, country, folk, blues and soul.  Here is a link to Maria Daines website - "Rock for the Good Times, Blues for the Bad, Music for the Soul."  On her website Maria describes her mission, "I endeavour to give voiceless beings songs to make their plight visible and their stories heard, the fight to overcome injustice and cruelty must never be silent! Compassion is the vital link that makes life bearable when all else fails." They donate their music CDs to rescues around the world to raise funds for rescue.  Daines/Killington wrote and produced this beautiful song In Memory of Babyboy.

The following article was published on Terri and Babyboy's storyDogasaur.com article - 'Animal Cruelty: What Can We Do To Stop It' (5/29/2011).
Terri's remarkable journey from the very pit of animal cruelty is an inspiration and example for animal rescuers everywhere.  Her love and devotion for her Basset Hound Babyboy has raised awareness against animal cruelty all over the world.  The comments on these sites are amazing.  So many people connected with Babyboy's story and now keep him in loving memory.  A fitting legacy for a loving Basset Hound who had a very short life that ended in tragedy, but a very long reach that is educating and comforting thousands.  All we can say is, thank you Terri for making such a difference in the lives of our beloved homeless hounds.

In Loving Memory of Babyboy.  We will always remember you.
